About Atlanta Wood

Atlanta has lived a life of extremes, growing up with eccentric artist parents in a house full of reptiles and old marine paintings of Napoleonic battles, her grandfather being a marine artist and set designer.

During Atlanta’s childhood, her mother embarked on an epic battle alongside the people of Stroud to save a row of incredible and beautiful mature trees that had been earmarked for destruction by the district council. Growing up in this rich ooze of environmentalism and artistry, Atlanta went on a wavy journey that would wend its way through spells of environmental activism and anarchism, working on local farms and gardening, to becoming a disciple of a small band of dedicated and secretive martial artists where she would become a Sensei and teach the way of the warrior. From here, she would find herself catapulted first to the big smoke and then to Monaco, where she would be a personal trainer by day and an artist by night, stalking the streets in search of inspiration.

Only when she returned to London, hardened to the ways of capitalism and excess, delving into a journey of mind-expanding psychedelics, would this rich brew come into fruition. Inspiration was found in nature's constant reappropriation of man's creations, in the ceaseless and nonsensical battle between nature and pavement. Seeing how every attempt at rigid structure was thwarted by nature's tendency towards movement and beautiful eruptions of weeds.

Through her work, Atlanta attempts to show a vision of a world reclaimed by nature and shine a light on the absurdity of man's constant need for control and order in a chaotic and untameable world.
